Biography


Karlijn van Bree has been the EU Representative of the Northern Netherlands Alliance since September 2017. Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland, the three northern provinces of the Netherlands are united in the Northern Netherlands Alliance (SNN). Karlijn is responsible for maintaining relations between the northern provinces and the EU institutions. She focuses on policy influencing in the following topics: (sustainable) energy, transport and mobility and circular economy. In addition, she is also the first contact person in Brussels for the provincial staff and for third parties.

 

Karlijn has a Postgraduate degree in European Union Decision-making (Vrije Universiteit Brussels), a Master’s degree in Ancient Culture (Utrecht University) and a Bachelor’s degree in Classics (Leiden University)

Career


  • 2017 – Present: EU representative of the Northern Netherlands Alliance (SNN) in Brussels
  • 2014 – 2017: Assistant in the cabinet of Mr. Alex Brenninkmeijer at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg
  • 2013 – 2014: Parliamentary adviser to the Committee of Economic Affairs in The Hague
  • 2012 – 2013: Press officer & assistant to a Political leader at the Dutch House of Representatives in The Hague
  • 2011 – 2012: Policy officer at the Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO in The Hague
  • 2011: Trainee EU coordination at Europe Desk, International Relations Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs in The Hague
  • 2011: Trainee Political Affairs & Public Diplomacy at the Dutch Embassy in Rome
